01Scan

Walk slowly. Green means got it.

Hold up your iPhone and walk the room. LiDAR measures every wall while the camera takes hundreds of sharp photos. Each surface lights up green once it's captured, so you can see exactly what's left.

  • About 10 minutes a room
  • Rooms first, then gardens and parks

02Build

Your room comes back, ready to play.

The upload starts by itself. A few minutes after it's done, your room is back as a soft clay model of itself: its walls, floor and furniture, each in its own colour. Walk it, fly through it, or lift the roof off and look down on it like a dollhouse.

  • Ready in minutes
  • Its shape and colours, no photos

03Play

Pick a game. Play it a minute later.

Treasure Hunt, Tag, Floor Is Lava, Hide and Seek and more, built around your real furniture: gems on your shelves, lava on your floor. Put a rope bridge from the bed to the bookcase, and everyone can cross it.

  • Built around your furniture

04Toy size

Everyone plays as a toy.

Every game is played at toy size, in your own house. The rug becomes a racetrack, the loft bed a mountain, the top of the wardrobe a summit with a flag on it. Everything you scanned is suddenly enormous.

  • Your house at 1:10 scale
  • Bridges, ladders, swings and slides

05Share

Then play in everyone else's places.

Publish your space and the games in it. Explore bedrooms turned into hideouts, dens turned into racetracks and kitchens where the floor is lava. Climb the weekly league and remix what you love.

Loci's own maps

No scan needed. Jump straight in.

Four giant places built for toys, open all day on Loci's own servers. The games start by themselves, so there's always one going. Or make one yours and bring your friends.

Your Loci Kid

A TV for a head, and a face for every moment.

Everyone plays as a Loci Kid. Its screen grins when you wave, goes fierce when you punch, sees stars when you're knocked over and dances when you do. Start from a look, then pick its face, hat, clothes, shoes and colours.

    Game modes

    A game for every room.

Every game reads your space: where the doors are, what's on the shelves, what you could hide under. Play with friends, family, or bots when nobody's on.

    • Treasure Hunt

Gems are hidden on shelves, under tables and in corners. Most found wins.

      Best anywhere
    • Floor Is Lava

Every so often the floor turns to lava. Get up on the furniture. Last one standing wins.

      Best in living rooms
    • Hide and Seek

Hide in a house none of your friends has been to. The seeker sees only what's in plain sight.

      Best in whole homes
    • Tag

One player is it. Touch someone to pass it on. Least time as it wins.

      Best in big rooms
    • Robot Defence

Robots pour in through the doors. Blast them before they reach you. Everyone's on the same team.

      Best in bedrooms and hallways
    • Toy Racer

Race three laps round the room, under the tables and round the chairs.

      Best on long floors
    • Escape Room

Three keys are hidden in the room. Find them all, then everyone out through the door before time runs out.

      Best in kitchens and attics
    • Haunted House

Lights out, torches on, and a ghost is looking for you. Made for Halloween.

      Best in whole homes
    • Explore

Walk round, wave, quick chat. No score, just somewhere to hang out.

      Best with friends

    Build mode

Turn your room into a playground.

Put a rope bridge from the sofa to the table, a ladder up the bookcase and a trampoline on the rug, while everyone plays. Every prop works: you climb the ladders, bounce on the trampoline and ride the swing.

    Ranks

    Climb the league.

Every week you're in a league group of up to 30 players. Every game you play earns XP, and XP is your place. Finish near the top to go up a league and win Rubies; slip to the bottom and you go down. A child's league is their own family.

    Trophies

    45 medals to collect.

Everything you do in Loci has a medal: your first room, your fiftieth win, a lap of honour, a hundred robots. The harder it is, the rarer the metal, from bronze up to star. Some come with Rubies, and on iPhone they're Game Center achievements too.

    Friends & family

Chat with the people you actually know.

Your family's own chat, groups of friends, and invites you can join with one tap. See who's playing where, react, reply, and hop into their game.

      Play anywhere

One world, built from real places.

Every space someone scans becomes a place anyone can visit, on any phone, tablet or computer. Like the game worlds you already know, except these ones are real.

      Clay look

Your own room, in soft clay.

Each space is rebuilt from the iPhone's depth sensor and the colours in its photos. It comes back as a clay model of itself in warm daylight: plainly your room, and solid enough to walk into, bump against and play in.

      1. 1

        Looks like home

Every wall, floor and piece of furniture keeps its own colour, picked from your photos. Then the photos are deleted.

      2. 2

        Feels solid

The depth scan becomes walls, floors and furniture you can't walk through, so every game plays fair.

      3. 3

        Knows what's what

Doors, beds, shelves and sofas are recognised, so the game knows where robots come in and where a key can hide.

      Creators

Build places people want to play.

Scan somewhere special, build games in it and publish it for everyone. Anyone 13 or over can publish, and a person on Loci's team looks at every public place before it's listed. Ways to earn from what you make are coming.

      • Publish spaces and games

Keep them private, share them with friends, or put them out for everyone.

      • Sell kits, props and outfits Coming soon

Anything you make will be able to go in the marketplace, at a price you set.

      • Make it yours

Start from one of Loci's own maps and make it your own: your props, your games, your rules.

      • Build at toy size

Rope bridges, ladders, swings and slides, put where you want them, for everyone in your place to climb.

      Safety

      Your home stays yours.

A scan shows the inside of somebody's home, so privacy and safety are built into how it works.

      • Private until you say so

New spaces are visible only to you. You choose, space by space, whether to share.

      • No photos in your room

The photos taken while you scan are used for one thing, picking the colours of your walls and furniture, then deleted. What anyone sees is the room's shape and colours, never a photo of it.

      • No address, ever

We never ask where a space is, and never store it.

      • Cartoon fun only

Robots, ghosts and slime. No gore, no realistic weapons, and a person looks at every public place before anyone can find it.

      • Built for families

Children's accounts belong to a family a grown-up runs, and can't publish. In a game everyone chats in set phrases; outside one, a child only messages their family, as their parent allows. Avatars come from the catalogue, never uploads.

      • Reports read by people

Block anyone in a tap, in a chat or in a game. Every report goes to Loci's own team with the messages around it, exactly as they were typed. Anyone can tell us about something, with or without an account.

      FAQ

      Fair questions.

Do I need to scan a room to play?

No. Loci's own maps, a classroom, a library, a bedroom and a football pitch, are open to everyone all day, and their games start by themselves. Scanning your own place is for when you want to play at home.

      Which phones can scan?

Scanning launches on iPhone Pro models and iPad Pro, which have LiDAR. Anyone can play on any phone, tablet or computer, straight from a link. We're working on scanning from ordinary video, so every phone can scan.

      Aren't 3D scans huge?

The app does the heavy lifting. It keeps only what's needed to build your space, so a room is a few hundred megabytes, and it uploads in the background over Wi-Fi. You never move files around yourself.

      How long does it take?

About ten minutes to scan a bedroom. It uploads in the background, and your room is ready a few minutes after that. We'll tell you when it is.

      Why is everyone a toy?

Under a normal ceiling a full-size player has a corridor to run round. As a toy, a bedroom is a whole world: the bed's a mountain, the gap under the sofa's a cave, and there's room for everyone.

      How do leagues work?

Each week, from Monday, you're in a group of up to 30 players in your league, and the XP you earn that week is your place. When the week ends the top seven go up a league, the bottom five go down, and the top seven win Rubies. There are six leagues, from Pebble to Star.

      Who can my child message?

Only their own family. You choose, child by child, whether their Messages are on, set phrases only, or off. Links never reach a child, rude words are hidden from everyone under 18, and anything they report is read by Loci's team.

Does it work with Game Center?

Yes, on iPhone. Your leaderboards and medals show up in Game Center as well as in Loci. Children's accounts stay out of it: their leagues and friends are their family's.

      Can I scan outdoors?

Rooms and whole homes come first. Gardens, parks and other outdoor spaces follow.

      What does it cost?

Playing is free, and so is scanning your own spaces and playing games in them. Creators who want more rooms and more public places will be able to upgrade.

How old do you have to be?

13 or over for an account of your own, or older in the countries whose law asks for it. A younger child plays in a family that a parent or carer runs, and the grown-up decides who they can talk to.

Something on Loci shouldn't be there?

Report it in the game, or tell us here, with or without an account. A person on Loci's team reads every one. If we take something down, its owner is told what we did and why, and can reply if they think we got it wrong. More on how we look after Loci.

      When can I try it?

Now, in your browser at play.playloci.com, on any phone, tablet or computer. The iPhone app, which scans your rooms, is coming to the App Store.
